December 18th, 2008
turntec 2008 - "THE" small but nice trade fair stands its ground between the huge leading fairs.

On December 5 , 2008, turntec – international trade fair for turned parts, turning and milling technology – at Exhibition Center Frankfurt/Main, with 110 exhibitors from 12 countries and 8.752 trade visitors closed the doors. The internationality of exhibitors was at the same high level as the year before.

The foreign exhibitor participation was 40.9% this year. Break down:
28.9% of foreign exhibitors come from Italy, 20.0 % from Spain, 13.3% from France and Switzerland, 4.4% from Belgium, China, India and Taiwan, 2,3% from Austria, Sweden and USA. The share for new exhibitors was 39.1%.

The whole process chain “From raw materials to the lathe and milling machine, to the tool and accessories to the finished part” was represented at exhibitor’s sides and consisted of the following (multiple entries possible): turned parts 69.4%, milled parts 36.0%, automatic lathe parts 27.9%, engineering and plant construction 8.1 %, raw materials 7.2%, metal refinement and tools each 5.4%, lathe and preliminary treatment / finishing 3.6% each, machine overhaul 2.7%, occupational safety, waste disposal, measuring and publishing houses 1.8% each, cleaning systems for turned and milled parts, bar feeders, control and packaging technology 0.9% each.

Our visitors enjoyed the great variety of exhibitors as well as the range of services offered. More than two-thirds of the exhibitors were from the seg-ment of turned and milled parts (69.4%). Statements from trade visitors referred to the variety of exhibitors as well as the range of services of turntec 2008. The high exhibitors’ participation of turned parts manufacturer (69.4%) was mentioned as a clear advantage of the fair.

Voices from exhibitors Due to the extremely high quality of the trade visitors the turntec once again could score as a high-class trade fair. Thus confirmed Mrs. Peggy Schmidt, too, managing director of EMS Straufhain GmbH, Streufdorf, Germany, “This year as well, turntec was for us an interesting platform, to present our company. The number of trade contacts have been the same compared to the year before. We have until now, two days after the closing of turntec, sent some quotations to potential customers. The atmosphere was – despite financial crisis – very optimistic and we have lead a lot of interesting conversations with regard to other very interesting themes like development of steel prices. All in all it could be stated, that turntec has been a high-class fair again. It is not the quantity of trade visitors which counts but the excellent quality of visitors, which was documented in direct inquiries and qualified discussions.”

That the times are not getting easier is a matter of fact for Stefan Granacher, managing director of Ewald Granacher Präzisionstechnik GmbH & Co. KG, St. Georgen, Germany, “I was very satisfied with this year’s turntec even if we got less trade visitors. Just in times of economical problems it is extraordinary important, to be present at the show. For this reason turntec is the right platform for us. In 2009 we are going to exhibit again.

And Maurizio Marietti, responsible for purchase and sales at Utimac Torino s.r.l., Torino, Italy, remarked, “We highly valued the participation at turntec 2008 considering it as one of the most specialized exhibitions in the turned parts industry of Germany. The possibilty to show our machinery directly to the endusers has been a great chance for us and we expect a succesful follow-up.”

turntec AWARD A further highlight was the sixth turnec AWARD for turntec exhibitors for trend-setting technologies, international market-relevant new items and technologies. The submissions were evaluated by a blue-ribbon peer jury that consisted of users, members of the Exhibitor Board and representatives of technical universities and the media. The Awards in Gold, Silver and Bronze were awarded for the most innovative submissions on the first exhibition day at the exhibitors’ event “The hall is having a Party”.

The Golden AWARD, went to Müller Hydraulik GmbH,Villingendorf, Germany, for their mobile fluidstation ‘combiclean’. “First of all it offers to the user a convenient and secure way, to fill hydraulic oil highly clean from the central filling or storing system into the hydraulic equipment without any danger of polluting on the way of transportation. So the durability of hydraulic equipment can be increased considerably. Even in greatest accuracy from the side of oil manufacturers, oil is getting polluted on the way of transportation to the customer and while decanting into the tank. Also extraction by suction out of the central storing system is again a higher risk of pollution, exactly so as to fill into the hydraulic equipment by conventional means. With combiclean it can be obviated, because oil, if cleaned once, at the clean tank cannot become polluted any more by exterior effects”, said Martin Müller, managing director of Müller Hydraulik GmbH and adds, “As the winner of the turntec Gold Award this year for our ‘combiclean fluidstation’ we are naturally very proud and pleased as a company. For us as a typical special plant constructor the turntec is not our main exhibition, nevertheless we are taking place for the third time in a row without interruption and are satisfied with each show. It is not a fair for large quantities of contacts, which we want to achieve, but the highly qualified business contacts, which we achieve each year.”

The company Wolf Maschinenbau AG, Brackenheim, Germany, won the silver AWARD for their Wolf bar feeder BF 4-30. As an AWARD winner Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Martin Wolf, Managing Board of Wolf Maschinebau AG, confirmed: “The company Wolf Maschinenbau AG takes part in the turntec fair from the very beginning. This year we had the biggest booth at the exhibition. It was an excellent decision despite of the economical situation in general, we were taken by surprise by the number of trade visitors who showed up and the many discussions with highly qualified specialists. Also in the future we’ll exhibit at turntec fair with pleasure.

About the bronze AWARD two winners were very pleased, which convinced the jury by the same number of points: UTIMAC TORINO S.R.L.,Torino, Italy, The company got the prize for CNC Multi- spindles. Furthermore BREMOR Servcices Sàrl, Vevey, Switzerland, which was bistowed upon for a fully automatic flow pass, deburring, sandblast equipment.

Online service The online service turntec-m-check, an information system for exhibitors, combined with a B2B platform was well-liked. The users e.g. buyers can easily check the data of exhibiting companies under www.turntec-m-check.com and can send information, enquiries as well as appointments during the fair via e-mail to an exhibitor’s contact person. Both sides (buyer and exhibitor) enhance their exhibition activities.

Supporting programme On the first day of exhibition the exhibitor evening “The Hall is having a Party” was a further highlight organised by exhibitors for exhibitors. With regional culinary delicacies, different stands with fully laden tables provided the opportunity for B2B activities, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. New contacts were made and future business ideas were discussed.

An additional highlight was the exhibitor lecture forum. Due to this lectures the participating exhibitors were able to invite interested visitors for further discussions to their booth.

Prospects and objectives The target of turntec 2009 will be to extend the exhibition’s concept. For the forthcoming turntec, December 2 - 5, 2009, for the first time in the brand new hall 11.1 at the Exhibition Centre Frankfurt/Main, the organiser, DEMAT GmbH, expects 200 exhibitors from 15 different countries.

turntec, the “fine and mine” trade fair for the turning and milling technology stands its ground at the market of fairs because many more inquiries for turntec 2009 were received after the closing of the fair compared to last year. We expect the international presence of exhibitors as well as the number of trade visitors to be increased, too. turntec will be again the international exhibition meeting point for the industry of turned parts, turning and milling technology next year.
